Quality of Life
Sierra Eco contributes to the quality of life of farm workers by supporting international labour standards for worker safety and treatment, the prohibition of child labor, and by assuring wages that enable a fair standard of living for all employees and their families.
Farms that carry the Sierra Eco Label also fund housing, education and recreation programs, including daycare and medical care. They support the training and education of their employees, and also encourage the schooling and literacy of all family members.
Good Water - Good Earth
In an effort to maintain healthy soil and ensure the availability of a clean water supply, farms with the Sierra Eco Label practice environmentally responsible flower growing methods, recycling and waste disposal. By using integrated pest management techniques, committing to the reduction of approved pesticides, and adhering to strict recycling programs, the soil is preserved and re-used, and the water supply is kept clean for use by the surrounding communities.
Flowers that speak for themselves
The quality standards set by Sierra Eco exceed all other standards in the North American floral industry. These include strict grading criteria, extensive shipping and handling guidelines, and most importantly, expectations for freshness and longevity that are second to none.
How can you be sure?
All criteria for Sierra Eco accreditation come from standards and guidelines initiating from ILO (International Labor Organisation) and WHO (World Health Organisation) policies. Farms that carry the Sierra Eco Label are monitored by an independent auditing organisation to make sure they comply with all the required standards.
